Apathy

his internet went down
your luxury car ran out of gas
she has to wear an off-the-rack gown
my flight got delayed

he can’t apply for summer school, or watch porn
you’re stranded
it’s like the end of the world for her
I can’t reach my destination on time

it’s like the end of everything
for he, you, she and me
we’re deprived – but of what?
perhaps our luxuries, our demands

a child eats nothing the entire day
the mother picks food from the garbage
a burger you didn’t like
a candy bar that was maybe too sweet

numbers of uneducated people
in a nation of poverty, over population and chaos
but his internet is down
and that’s the real problem

millions of people sleep under the sky
bitten by bugs, run over by cars
but you’re stuck, in the middle of traffic
and that’s the real problem

kashmir is in conflict
in a dangling possibility of war
but an off-the-rack gown is horrifying
and that’s the real problem

the Middle East is torn
in political unrest, economic disturbance
but damn my flight got delayed
and that’s the real problem.

his internet went down-2his internet went down-3
